If you have a specific question regarding your Volvo that is not answered here, please give us a call or submit the enquiry form because we can help - we will assist you personally.
Yes - the Drive-E 2.0T family is a well-engineered modular engine with strong internals. The fact that Volvo uses the same base engine from T3 to T8 - with the T8 making over 300kW from the petrol motor alone - illustrates the hardware's true capability. A Stage 1 remap on a T5 or T6 operates well within safe limits. We validate on NZ 98 RON and log boost response and knock activity before finalising the calibration.
The T8 hybrid system is complex, and we focus calibration on the 2.0T petrol engine rather than the hybrid drivetrain management. Gains on the petrol motor alone are 30–45kW, which improves performance in the portions of every trip driven without battery assist. This is particularly noticeable on longer highway runs where the battery depletes. We don't modify the hybrid management strategy, keeping the system functioning exactly as designed.
A T5 (2.0T, around 185kW standard) gains 30–50kW on Stage 1, taking it to 215–235kW. A T6 twin-charged (around 228kW) gains 35–55kW, moving it close to T8 territory. The improvement in real-world driving is significant - particularly at motorway speeds where the extra torque reduces the need to downshift for passing. For an SUV that often carries a full family, the extra capability is genuinely useful rather than just impressive on paper.
On diesel Drive-E models, yes - and meaningfully. The extra torque reduces throttle demand at highway cruise speeds, and owners commonly report 6–10% improvement in economy on regular commutes and motorway driving. On petrol T5 and T6 models, the answer depends on driving style - the engine becomes more efficient at a given load, but the extra capability is tempting. Most owners report similar or slightly improved economy unless actively using the performance.
