Yes - and the shared platform is actually a major advantage. The EA888 TSI and EA288 TDI engines in Skoda vehicles are identical to those in equivalent Audi and VW models, and those platforms have an extensive global tuning track record. We use the same calibration strategies across all VAG brands, validated on NZ fuel. A Stage 1 tune on an Octavia RS or Superb TDI is a well-understood process with consistent, predictable results.
The DSG7 DQ381 in the Octavia RS is the same robust unit used in the Golf R and Tiguan R, and it handles Stage 1 torque levels well. The DSG6 DQ250 wet-clutch unit is similarly capable. Where a transmission tune becomes more valuable is if you're doing Stage 2 with more aggressive power levels, or if you notice the gearbox hunting or feeling out of step with the new engine response. We assess each case individually.
An Octavia RS 245 on Stage 1 typically gains 35–50kW and 80–110Nm, taking it from around 180kW to well over 220kW. The Superb 2.0 TSI gains a similar amount. Diesel Superb and Kodiaq models pick up 50–90Nm of torque on Stage 1, which makes a significant difference to real-world overtaking and efficiency at cruise speeds. Skoda's value proposition gets even better once you account for what tuning adds.
On TDI diesel models, yes - often noticeably. The additional torque means the engine works less hard to maintain speed, and you spend less time at higher throttle positions. Highway fuel economy gains of 5–10% are commonly reported by Superb and Kodiaq TDI owners. Petrol models are more dependent on driving style - the efficiency gains are there if you're not using the extra power aggressively, but it's hard to resist.
