Yes - Land Rover's diesel engines are well-engineered for high-load, sustained use and handle Stage 1 calibration within safe margins. We pay particular attention to EGT behaviour under load on Land Rover diesel tunes, because these vehicles are often used in demanding off-road or towing scenarios. Boost and fuelling are calibrated to stay within safe limits under all expected operating conditions, and we log the results before delivery.
Yes - improved low-end torque from a remap is directly useful off-road. Better throttle precision, more torque at low RPM and improved response in low range all contribute to easier, more controlled off-road driving. Throttle linearity is particularly important for rock crawling and technical terrain - the factory tune can be jerky at low speeds, and a good calibration smooths this considerably while also adding power for demanding situations.
A Discovery or Defender with the SDV6 3.0L diesel gains 100–150Nm of torque on Stage 1, which transforms towing performance. On NZ roads - particularly the grades around the Waikato, Manawatu Gorge or the South Island passes - the difference is significant. Owners consistently report pulling in a higher gear with less throttle, reducing transmission heat and improving confidence on descents where engine braking matters.
A properly calibrated tune maintains safe operating conditions and does not harm the engine. The DPF remains active and functional - we don't modify emissions systems. However, if the DPF is already partially blocked or the vehicle doesn't regularly complete long highway runs (needed for DPF regeneration), these are issues worth addressing before tuning.
