Yes - the T-Jet and Abarth MultiAir engines are well-understood platforms with a global tuning community behind them. Abarth in particular builds its cars to handle performance driving, with stronger internals than standard Fiat variants. Stage 1 tuning stays within safe boost and fuelling limits, and we run these tunes on NZ 98 RON which is important for knock-sensitive small-displacement turbocharged engines. We log knock activity and boost response before finalising every calibration.
Yes - the Ducato 2.3 MultiJet diesel is a robust commercial engine that handles conservative Stage 1 calibration well. Torque gains of 60–100Nm make a real difference when the van is loaded with tools or the motorhome is fully loaded for a trip. Highway overtaking improves noticeably, and the engine doesn't have to work as hard at cruise speeds, which can improve fuel economy on long runs - relevant for any Ducato doing regular highway kilometres.
An Abarth 595 Competizione (around 132kW standard) gains 20–35kW on Stage 1, taking it to approximately 150–165kW. For a car weighing around 1,100kg, that's a significant improvement in power-to-weight ratio. The gains are most noticeable in the 3,000–5,500RPM range where the T-Jet is most characterful - the car feels noticeably more urgent and rewarding to drive quickly.
For any tuned T-Jet or Abarth engine, we strongly recommend 98 RON. These small-displacement turbocharged engines are sensitive to fuel quality, and the ignition timing advance that delivers the performance gains requires premium octane to avoid knock. Running 95 RON on a tuned Abarth will result in the ECU retarding timing to protect the engine, which reduces the benefit of the tune. We calibrate on 98 RON and specify this as the minimum fuel requirement.
