Yes - the HEMI V8 family is massively over-engineered with thick-walled blocks, forged rotating assemblies and a well-documented tuning history. The Hellcat's 6.2L supercharged engine in particular has strong internals designed to handle sustained high-load operation. Stage 1 tuning operates within the engine's proven limits. We run all HEMI tunes on NZ 98 RON and log AFR and timing data throughout the power range before delivery.
A transmission tune is strongly recommended for HEMI V8 builds. The TorqueFlite 8-speed is a robust unit, but its factory shift logic is calibrated for comfort and compliance rather than performance. After an engine remap, a transmission tune sharpens shift timing dramatically, improves torque converter lockup earlier and adjusts the shift points to keep the HEMI in its power band longer. The difference in-car is immediately noticeable.
A standard Hellcat (around 527kW) gains 40–65kW on Stage 1, pushing it past 570–590kW. A 392 HEMI gains 30–50kW from around 360kW. Even a 5.7L HEMI picks up 25–40kW, which in a car this heavy makes a genuine real-world difference. For Hellcat owners, the Stage 1 gains make an already devastating car feel even more urgent - particularly in the 3,500–5,500RPM range where the supercharger really loads up.
We calibrate all HEMI tunes on NZ 98 RON and it's the recommended fuel post-tune. The HEMI's knock control system will retard timing on lower octane fuel to protect the engine, which reduces the benefit of the tune. Running 95 RON won't damage the engine, but it will give you less of the performance gains you paid for. New Zealand's major fuel brands all offer 98 RON - it's widely available and the cost difference per tank is minor compared to the performance difference.
